  24. REQUIREMENTS:
  25. • You must have system 7 or above.
  26. • You must have support for AppleEvents and SoundInputDevices.
  27. • Your screen saver must support the SAVR and SAVC selectors. Some screen savers that support these selectors are (in my own understanding) "AfterDark", "BasicBlack", "Dark side of the Mac".

  30. WHY DO YOU NEED IT:
  31. If you want a nice, simple way to wake up your screen saver after it has gone to sleep, "WakeUp"  and "WakeUp Daemon" are the right programs for you.

  34. HOW TO INSTALL IT:
  35. Put the "WakeUp Daemon" extension into the system extension folder or just drag&drop it on the system folder. After installing the "WakeUp Daemon" in your extension folder, you will not notice it. That's because it is a "faceless background application". It doesn't have any menus or windows that are visible on the screen.

  37. When the "WakeUp Daemon" extension is in the system extension folder, you have to reboot before the "WakeUp Daemon" starts working.

  40. HOW TO USE ALL THE FEATURES:
  41. Use the "WakeUp" application, to change the settings that the "WakeUp Daemon" extension uses. The "WakeUp" application shows a window with information and preference settings.
  42. • You can set the daemon to detect sound input from the microphone or not.
  43. • You can also alter the sound input level that the microphone will respond to.

As long as your screen saver  is awake, the "WakeUp Daemon" extension isn't doing anything. At the time the screen saver is turned on, it tells "WakeUp Daemon" to start monitoring the microphone for a sound input. When "WakeUp Daemon" detects a sound input, it tells the screen saver to turn itself off. Then "WakeUp Daemon" stops monitoring the microphone, until the whole thing starts again.

  47. The only way to quit the "WakeUp Daemon" extension is to send it a 'quit' AppleEvent. Mostly it will happily live in the background forever.

  50. WHY DOESN'T IT WORK:
  51. Your screen saver doesn't support the SAVR and SAVC selectors, so "WakeUp Daemon" will not be able to detect if the screen saver has been turned on.

  53. Your screen saver is using a module or feature that uses the sound input device, so "WakeUp Daemon" can't use the sound input device.

  55. Your screen saver is in password mode, so "WakeUp Daemon" will not be able to turn off the screen saver. Obviously I can't override the security of the password mode, at least not in a simple way :-)

  74. FEATURES IN THE FUTURE:
  75. I'm not planning to add many features to this application. I think there are to many applications already, that tries to do everything and because of that drowns the initial feature. Some improvements that most certainly will be installed:
  76. • Option for showing icon at start-up or not.
  77. • Make password inputbox visible when turning off a screen saver in password mode.
